In 1992, just after graduating from high school Amanda Bossard started her education in marine biology at Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage in Alaska. Bossard started her career in commercial seafood in 1999, when she started working as a crew member on the F/V Sunset, a 65' halibut schooner that has been a to salmon tender with Murat Aritan, a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard and Aritan are married now and have joined forces to stake their claim to their business. They are both proponents of conserving renewable and sustainable seafood resources. Otolith is an independent wholesale distributor of seafood that was started by a woman in Philadelphia in 2007, by a now-mother of two young children: Bella aged 3, and Andre age 1. Its name is an affectionate reference to her deep expertise in fish biology as well as her husband's extensive involvement to the industry of seafood, often keeping them from each other for 5 months or more as they work towards financial and environmental goals which reflect both their independence and dedication to the community in which they live. Bossard together with Isabella Andre and Isabella Andre (ages 12 and 10 respectively) return each year, beginning in July of 2016 and continue to Southeast Alaska for the summer harvest of salmon wild. In the course of two months, Bossard, along with her daughter Isabella use hooks & lines to fish for their target salmon. Aritan will then sell their seafood locally to processors. Amanda Bossard works as an anchor/MMJ for News 12 Brooklyn and News 12 Bronx. She is with this station from November 2015.
